Hereby adopting the term "curbhanger." It's a brilliant way to describe thi sconcept!

I heard another example of a fake cliffhanger from a children's author who regularly used them: at the end of a chapter, the MC falls and lands somewhere that has green spikes all over. GASP! Turn the page to the next chapter, and it's just grass. Talk about a let-down.
