Suffering alone — most definitely. Totally relate to that. Growing up, I didn’t realize that a lot of depression looks nonfunctional (lying in bed, etc.) because my mother was clinically depressed and even suicidal at times, but no one would ever have known it. The house was clean and put together, she looked like she could have been Grace Kelly’s sister, complete with French twist, tailored clothes, and painted nails. But that didn’t mean she wasn’t deeply depressed. In a way, maybe it was good to see that side of depression because I knew as an adult that I had it. Best of luck with yours. It’s a battle, and while we may feel weak because we’re always fighting, we’re actually very, very strong.
